My Love of Giraffes

It is World Giraffe Day and I'm celebrating these amazing animals!

I have loved giraffes ever since I was a little girl. After consistently asking my parents for one, I eventually got a puppy but no giraffe ever came to live with us.

I have the giraffe pictured here in my house, and it is one of my most prized possessions. I saw it in an art gallery my friends and I were visiting in Las Vegas, and just had to have this giraffe. It has a lot of fun details painted on it, like a wine bottle and chili peppers, and it is a great conversation piece. At first, I left the gallery without it, because I wasn't really looking for a piece of art. And I was in Vegas, so I was already spending plenty of money. My friends encouraged me that if this piece really caught my eye and it was speaking to me, I should go back and get it. I've never regretted it.

My Dad calls him Geoffrey. We have gone to great lengths together making sure he never got broken in transit during my house moves (he has been bubble-wrapped and strapped into the front seat of the car with a seatbelt!). I put him in a safe spot in my house so he does not get knocked over.

Towards the very top of my bucket list is to visit Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, Kenya, where giraffes roam around and visit guests during the morning by poking their long necks into the windows. Who doesn’t want to have a giraffe join them for breakfast?! I must go there!

Giraffes are a symbol of elegance, grace, and peace. Today is a celebration of these gentle giants.
